It has been a miserable night for the Liberal Democrats, with the party losing dozens seats up and down the UK.

And this was summed up in Solihull, when one of the supporters of former MP Lorely Burt was filmed pushing away a camera following Burt’s defeat in the West Midlands constituency.

Burt picked up only 26 per cent of the votes, compared to Knight’s 49 per cent, a massive swing in the Tories’ favour.

Burt who has held office in Solihull for two terms also refused to give interviews following her resounding defeat.

Elsewhere in the UK, the Liberal Democrats suffered their worst night for decades.

High profile MPs such as Vince Cable, Ed Davey and Danny Alexander all suffered defeats, while the party’s leader Nick Clegg was one of only a handful of Lib Dem MPs that was able to hold onto their seats.
