A 300 metre water slide could be coming to London this year after more than 40,000 people signed up to attend the event on Facebook.

EPIC Slip & Slide London is expected to take place in late July or August.

It follows a project in Bristol where a 90-metre slide was set up on Park Street in the centre of the city last May.

Edward Ash, an events promoter and graduate from the London School of Economics, said that he thought London was jealous of Bristol but that the event could be done to a larger scale in the capital.

“We wanted to do something fun, it’s as simple as that, and it’s clearly struck a chord with a lot of people,” Ash told the London Evening Standard.

“The response was phenomenal and bizarre, but it gives you the energy to go out there and make it happen,” he said.

A venue for the slide is yet to be confirmed. The initial plan was to set it up on Hampstead Heath, but Ash is now trying to find another venue because of the interest in the event.

Claiming to be in talks with a country estate just outside of London, he said: “Hopefully we can get proof of concept and then next year do it in central London.”
