Halloween ride-out: 200 bikers cause havoc in London, ‘terrifying kids’ and letting off fireworks in ‘Mad Max’ style rampage

The bikers were protesting against the lack of space to legally perfrom stunts in the capital

A group of more than 200 bikers stormed through the streets of South London - reportedly jumping red lights and letting off fireworks in their wake - causing havoc and “terrifying kids” on an eight-mile run between Lambeth and Bromley.

The Evening Standard reported that the masked bikers, mounted on quad bikes, mopeds and high-powered motorcycles rode pavements and allegedly nearly ran people over during a protest against the lack of space for bikers to perform stunts legally in London.

Various pieces of footage circulated online shows the sheer scale of the Hallowe’en ride-out on Saturday night, while one video posted on Bike Life TV shows an ambulance with its blue lights on becoming stuck in the convoy.

One person likened the scenes to a Mad Max film, describing seeing “hundreds of bikes and quad bikes going down the road (and the wrong side)”.

London residents have condemned the riders’ actions for the danger they caused to others after they “mounted pavements and terrified kids,” while some claimed to have seen the bikers throwing fireworks at ambulances.

Terence Redpath, who was in Lambeth at the time of the ride-out, wrote on organiser UK Raise It Up’s Facebook page: “Some of you moronic idiots nearly ran us over at the Elephant and Castle,” while another London resident complained about the damage caused in Lewisham.

“Tore up Hilly Fields park and trashed the only local free cricket ground with hundreds of pounds of damage to it. The only one locally that kids can use,” wrote Ian Richardson. “Mounted pavements and terrified kids who were out enjoying their costume night. Feel proud?”

Carl Baumann, a Peckham resident, wrote: “You're absolute heroes. Have nothing but total respect for the way you scared the living crap out of parents and children riding on the pavements last night in Peckham. - P.S. Well done for letting off fireworks at ambulances too - they deserve it.”

A statement on the UK Raise It Up page claimed that while “there’s a lot of negative press and vibes towards the fast-growing love for bikelife” the supporters of the movement have grown into their thousands, and “we still have nowhere to ride”.

“What else can you expect there is not one place we can ride or stunt legally,” it read, adding: “It will only get worse.”

“The time has come to start a petition and we will take it as far as possible to get it approved, let’s start by using the hashtag #giveussomewheretoride”.
