Man foils hit-and-run driver’s getaway by pulling keys out of ignition

Dashcam footage has been released showing the incredible moment a motorist foiled a driver’s hit-and-run getaway by pulling the keys out of the ignition.

Michael Scott was driving in Birmingham when he saw a Vauxhall Astra pull out of a junction and smash into a Porsche.

Mr Scott expected the driver would pull over in order to exchange insurance details; but the opportunistic driver instead made for a swift getaway.

“I noticed it had hit a Porsche, and I thought ‘that’ll be expensive!’

“The car started to pull away – I thought the driver was just going to park up out of the way of the traffic.”

Mr Scott momentarily managed to drive in front of the Astra before it overtook him, leaving him with only one option - to track down the driver by foot.

Mr Scott can be seen running up to the vehicle, opening the door and pulling the keys from the ignition, before coolly walking back to his car.

“I was in a rush so I couldn’t stop, but I gave her keys to the Porsche driver and left – I contacted the police to let them know I had footage of the incident too.”

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We were called to Hagley Road West at around 2.20pm on Saturday 13 February following a report of a collision involving two cars.

"A 24-year-old Birmingham woman was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and was later bailed pending further enquiries."
