A pensioner has been killed in a cliff fall while on holiday in Jersey, police said today.

Peter Scurr, 69, from Southampton, and an unnamed 65-year-old woman are believed to have plunged 40ft (12.2m) from a rock face on the Railway Walk above Mont Les Vaux in St Aubin.

Mr Scurr was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.

The woman suffered serious injuries in the incident, which took place at around 5pm, and is due to be flown to Southampton General Hospital for further treatment.

A spokesman for the States of Jersey Police said: "Officers are treating the death as a tragic accident and are now preparing a file for the Deputy Viscount (coroner)."
