Police have launched a manhunt for a suspected murderer after a man was shot dead outside a hotel on Tuesday morning.

Essex Police arrived at the scene after being alerted that a man had been seen with a gun and shots had been fired in the car park of the Marriott Hotel in Waltham Abbey before 9:50am.

The victim, believed to be in his 20s, was treated by ambulance paramedics but was declared dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made yet. Essex Police said they were working with the Metropolitan Police and other forces to find the killer.

Chief Superintendent Luke Collison said there was “no evidence to suggest that there is any threat to the wider public or any link to terrorism”.

“Essex Police has mobilised a number of officers including armed units in response to this incident.”

“We will be constantly reassessing the information we receive as the investigation progresses to ensure that the safety of the public remains paramount.”

He urged anyone who was at the hotel or nearby at the time of the shooting to contact the police.

Caroline Jenkins, director of sales at the four-star hotel, said: “We are working with the police on an incident that occurred this morning.” She added that the hotel was running as usual.
