Rail passengers face more delays due to overhead wire problems

Yet another overhead wire problem led to further disruption to rail passengers today.

The latest in a series of similar difficulties was at Potters Bar in Hertfordshire which, with a signalling problem nearby in the New Barnet area, caused delays on the East Coast main line.

Trains travelling from Peterborough/Cambridge towards London were unable to run between Brookmans Park and Potters Bar.

Passengers were advised that some of these services could be diverted via Hertford North.

Trains travelling from London towards Peterborough/Cambridge were able to run, but were subject to delays of up to 60 minutes.

Today's disruption follows delays yesterday on the East Coast line following an overhead wire problem at Newark North Gate in Nottinghamshire.

Passengers have been affected by overhead wire difficulties in recent weeks, with Radlett in Hertfordshire and St Neots in Cambridgeshire among the sites affected.

Elsewhere on the railways today, a broken-down train at Aigburth on Merseyside meant trains were unable to run between Hunts Cross and Liverpool Central. Replacement buses were in operation.

In Yorkshire, a problem with lineside equipment was causing disruption near Shepley. This led to delays for passengers travelling between Huddersfield and Barnsley.
