Arrest at London St Pancras

Dramatic video footage of an incident at St Pancras International station in London appears to show a police officer hitting a man with a baton in front of dozens of onlookers.

The footage, which looks to have been filmed using a mobile phone and is dated Tuesday March 8, shows two uniformed officers shouting for the man to get down.

He resists their instructions while repeatedly shouting, "I am not a criminal" - at which point the struggle turns physical.

At one point, 1:05s into the footage shown above, the officer on the right uses a long baton or truncheon to apparently make contact with the back of the man's legs

The police officers then repeatedly instruct him to, "Get down on the floor - now!"

But the man continues to resist doing so, shouting, "Why? I'll go with you - let's go."

It is not clear why the man is being detained, but members of the crowd can be heard shouting out in consternation during the four-minute footage of the incident.

Showan Abu uploaded the video to Facebook on Tuesday evening, alongside the caption: "Today at St Pancras International. I don't know what the commuter actually did, but the police was trying to arrest him.

"He said to the police officers "do not treat my like a criminal, I will go with you" yet they decided to hit him. Make your own mind about the situation. Please share!!"

A spokesman for British Transport Police told The Independent they were aware of the video and were looking into it.
