Teenager dies after car hits tree in Aberdeenshire

A 19-year-old man was killed last night after the car he was travelling in crashed into a tree.

The teenager died at the scene of the accident in Mintlaw, Aberdeenshire.

Four other teenagers were injured in the accident: the car’s 17-year-old male driver, an 18-year-old man, and two 17-year-old girls.

The injured teenagers were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The car which crashed was said to be a red Ford Fiesta. No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the accident.

The incident occurred on Station Road in the town at around 9pm on Saturday.

Police Scotland appealed for anyone who witnessed the accident or who saw the car being driven before that to contact them.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Police Scotland can confirm that a 19-year-old man has died following a road traffic collision in Aberdeenshire.

"The one vehicle collision happened around 8.50pm on Saturday 29th November on Station Road in Mintlaw when a Red Ford Fiesta left the road and collided with a tree. The 19-year-old was a passenger in the vehicle and sadly died at the scene.

"A 17-year-old male driver and three further passengers which were an 18-year-old male and two 17-year-old females were all conveyed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment to their injuries.

"None of their injuries are believed to be life threatening. Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the vehicle being driven prior to the collision to contact us on 101."
