Police are looking for a man who may have stab wounds after a woman fought off a rapist in what police described as a “terrifying” attack in Droitwich, Worcestershire.

The teenage victim was approached by the unknown man as she walked along a pathway in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police said the woman was able to grab a sharp object, stabbing her attacker in his side, back or abdomen as he raped her.

"This was a terrifying incident for this young woman and one that has caused concern in the local community," said DCI Steve Tonks of West Mercia Police.

"The victim fought the man off and in the process we suspect he has suffered a stab wound to his side, back or abdomen.

"It is possible that he sought medical attention for this or attempted to treat it himself at home.

"We are thoroughly investigating this incident and specially trained officers are supporting the victim."

Police said it was "vital" officers were able to identify the attacker, asking the public to come forward if they knew someone who had been stabbed over the weekend.

Detectives also want to hear from residents who may have seen an individual acting suspiciously in the area of between Trent Close and Worcester Road at the time of the incident.

"The support of the public will be key to helping us catch the offender and any information no matter how small could be vital," DCI Tonks added.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting reference 788s of 5 May, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on: 0800 555 111.
