A man who went out with a GoPro camera fixed to the dashboard of his vehicle inadvertently captured the moment a female police officer was knocked clean over by a huge wave that surged onto the road.

The footage, taken on Jersey, shows a fierce wave crashing into the officer, pushing her several metres down a road. She then gets up, limping slightly, and proceeds to carry on directing the traffic.

The person who captured the incident said he had gone out with the camera in order to capture some of the big waves hitting the shores as the Channel Islands, which, like much of the UK and northern France, continues to be battered by storms.

Posting the footage on Youtube, the driver commented: “Hi Everyone, just to let you know she got straight back up and carried on waving us on, we wouldn't have posted this if we thought she wasn't ok. we have since heard that she is bruised but otherwise fine, We'd like to take the opportunity to thank the emergency services for the hard work they do.”
