Woman gives birth outside of Primark in Birmingham as stunned shoppers 'shower mother and child with money'
Woman went into labour on the pavement outside Primark while onlookers filmed the birth and 'showered the child with money'
Stunned shoppers got a lot more than they bargained for after a woman gave birth outside a Primark store in Birmingham on Tuesday.
The woman was walking on New Street, a busy shopping area in Birmingham city centre, when she went into labour, much to the surprise of shoppers outside the budget fashion store.
Security staff moved to help her and held up a sheet to give her some privacy as she gave birth to a baby girl on the pavement. Both the mother and the baby were taken to City hospital and are doing OK.
Shop worker Nadia Hussain, who witnessed the unusual scene, told the BBC the mother was showered with money as shoppers cheered for her and the baby, adding: "She got about £300 to £400. The mother was waving at everyone, telling everyone to film her."
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "A call came into us at 13:56 pm to say there was a woman in labour on New Street. Thankfully an off-duty doctor happened to be there at the time who stepped into help.
"We sent two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle. It’s a baby girl and it is doing OK and both ambulances handed mother and baby over to City Hospital."
