A woman who died after falling from cliffs while out walking with her husband has been identified.

Laraine Goodwin, 49, was visiting Beachy Head, near Eastbourne, East Sussex, when the "tragic accident" happened, according to Sussex Police.

Mrs Goodwin, of Chapmans Close, Sundridge, Sevenoaks, Kent, fell from the top of the cliff by the Belle Tout lighthouse just before 3pm on Saturday, a police spokesman said.

He added: "Her body was recovered from the base of the cliff by the coastguard shortly afterwards.

"Her husband was present at the time of the tragic accident but the death is not being treated as suspicious and no one has been arrested, and no one is expected to be arrested."

The spokesman said a post-mortem examination will take place this week and will be followed by the opening and adjournment of an inquest, while the coroner's officer continues his inquiries.
