Woolwich soldier Lee Rigby's funeral to be held in 'next two weeks'

The funeral of Drummer Lee Rigby, the soldier murdered in Woolwich in May, will reportedly be held in the next two weeks.

Sources told Sky News that the soldier's funeral will be in Bury, Greater Manchester, which has strong links with his regiment, the 2nd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.

The Fusiliers can be traced back to the Lancashire Fusiliers, which were based in Bury.

Drummer Rigby came from Middleton, which is close to Bury. He was attacked on May 22 as he returned to the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, south east London after working at the Tower of London.

A car smashed into the 25-year-old and he was then attacked with knives and a cleaver. He died at the scene.

A post-mortem examination found he had died from multiple cut and stab wounds, where his injuries were so severe that he had to be identified from his dental records.

Two men, Michael Adebolajo, 28, of Romford, Essex, and Michael Adebowale, 22, of Greenwich, London, are both charged with his murder. The trial is expected to begin on November 18, and they will enter their pleas in September 27.
