Boris Johnson adds to David Cameron's woes over Europe and the economy today with a dramatic warning that the Prime Minister's solution to the eurozone crisis would allow the Germans to dominate the Continent.

The London Mayor claims his leader's vision for a reconstructed Europe could end up wrecking democracy across the EU. In an interview with The Sunday Telegraph, he describes the replacement of elected leaders in Greece and Italy with technocrats as "completely mad". And he warns: "What I don't think you can do, is pretend that you can create an economic government of Europe, effectively run by Germany."

He advocates "an orderly realignment", perhaps a "bisection of the euro into north and south", rather than the "big bazooka" of the European Central Bank printing more money.
