Councillor sorry for disabled cull call

A Cornwall councillor who said disabled children "should be put down" to save taxpayers' money has apologised, but refused to resign.

Collin Brewer, an independent councillor, said his remarks were designed to "provoke a debate".

He made the comments to a Disability Cornwall member in 2011. The charity complained and the council's standards committee has reported its findings.

Mr Brewer said this week that he was concerned about the financial burden of caring for Cornish disabled people out of the county – and that it would be more cost-effective to care for them in Cornwall. "It was unfortunately a flippant remark which I shouldn't have made," he said.
