A Ukip candidate who described himself as “unapologetically politically incorrect pro-British” has been suspended after suggesting Shadow Minister Luciana Berger had split loyalties because she is Jewish.

In one Twitter message Jack Sen, standing in West Lancashire, said: "Protect child benefits? If you had it your way you'd send the £ to Poland/ Israel." In another he wrote:  "Britain's youngest Jewish MP, Luciana Berger, is facing criticism over her record of.... loyalties."

Ms Berger said the comments were clearly “anti-Semitic” and “have no place in our politics”. She received hundreds of abusive messages after neo-Nazi Garron Helm was jailed for sending an anti-Semitic tweet to her stating “Hitler was right”.

Ukip spokesman said Mr Sen had been suspended from the party after he "expressed views that in no way reflect the views of the party and any other of our hard-working dedicated candidates”.

The Independent has launched its #FinalSay campaign to demand that voters are given a voice on the final Brexit deal.
