Nationwide election results announced

The majority of results of nationwide elections across England, Wales Scotland and Northern Ireland were announced in on Saturday.

Labour has suffered in Scotland, slumping to thrird place in the Holyrood election, but Jeremy Corbyn's party held on to many of the councils it was predicted to lose in England.

The Conservatives gained more Scottish Parliament seats than ever before, which led to the SNP unexpectedly losing its overall majority despite winning by a large margin.

In Wales, Labour just failed to secure a majority in the Welsh Assembly as Ukip won its first Senedd seats.

The DUP remains the largest party in Northern Ireland, after taking 29.2 per cent of the vote.
