A Ukip councillor appears to have written “anyone but a Muslim” underneath a photo of London Mayoral candidate Sadiq Khan. Cllr Sarah Larkins, Deputy Mayor of Ramsgate, apparently made the comment on the 'LGBTQ* in UKIP' Facebook page. The page had posted a photo from a recent Pride in London hustings between mayoral candidates. In the image, Ukip candidate Peter Whittle is pictured alongside Labour candidate Mr Khan.

The derogatory comments were posted under a photo of London mayoral candidates at recent hustings and appeared to be aimed at Labour politician Sadiq Khan (Facebook)

A number of derogatory comments soon appeared in relation to Mr Khan. One commenter wrote: “Islamist scum”, while another suggested: “Putting a Muslim, especially one who has spoken out against us, into any sort of power, is like cutting our own heads off. Let’s give IKIP [sic] and Peter Whittle a chance.”

Another wrote: “Mr Khan looks very smart, but why is he dressed in Western clothes when the 95% of Muslim [sic] wear rags and dress in Eastern Clothes. Integration is becoming true British citizens. I believe they have an ulterior motive here in Europe and the USA, some people cannot see it, but I can. It is frightening and will have consequences.”

When Cllr Sarah Larkins posted “Anyone but a Muslim”, another user warned her: “Cllrs should be very careful what they say.” Cllr Larkins responded: “Je suis Brussells et Paris.”

After the comments came to light, Ukip told ITV that no disciplinary action will be taken against Cllr Larkins.

The Independent has approached Cllr Larkins and Ukip for comment.
