A top UK law firm has celebrated International Women's Day with a 'bake off'.

Male and female lawyers at the firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer were asked to bake and bring in cakes as part of a baking competiition to raise money for charity.

The firm, which is recognised as among the top five UK law firms, has previously come under scrutiny for its ration of male to female partners (just 12 per cent are female).

A spokesperson for the firm said the idea to bake cakes was instigated by Oxfam. They told the legal gossip website Legal Cheek: "They are running a campaign based on coffee and cake initiatives which we got involved in. Everyone at the firm was asked to bake."

The firm raised £12,000 for Oxfam's 'raising her voice' project, which helps women from poor countries to influence government policies.
