Brits are braced for more chilly April weather as temperatures plummeted to lows of -6C overnight and the Met Office has warned that more snow is on the way.

It was a cold start to Wednesday morning as a widespread frost blanketed the country, with temperatures ranging from 1C to -3C.

However it will brighten up in the morning and be dry in most parts of the UK, but there will still be flurries of snow in the far north of Scotland and some coastal areas.

Temperatures on Wednesday afternoon will range from 6C-9C in the south, with some remote areas of Scotland getting as low as 2C, however it will feel warmer than Tuesday due to less wind.

Thick cloud will envelop the country this evening and some parts of the country will get rain, with the more remote parts of the UK getting a smattering of snow.

A yellow weather warning for snow remains in place for Scotland until 10am.

Met Office weather forecaster Aidan McGivern said: “The Arctic air is still with us as we start off Wednesday. A cold start for all of us with frost, snow and ice in places.”

Thursday is set to be cloudy with outbreaks of rain in Scotland and northern England, but largely dry and sunny in the south. Temperatures during the middle of the day will range from 9C to 11C.

Mr McGivern added that temperatures were “still not particularly pleasant, not particularly warm.”
