Remembering to stay in touch with parents while on a hair-raising adventure around the world can be difficult.

And when travellers do get in touch, they often leave out worrisome details when recounting the more unpredictable aspects of their route.

Not so for Roger Ryan, who Skyped his parents from Australia - without mentioning he was in an aeroplane and about to leap 14,000 feet out of it.

His mother and father are captured reacting to his announcement that he "just needs to get this out of the way, ok?" and suddenly jumping out of the plane - howling and screaming as he drops to the earth.

At first the Irish pair appear shocked, but soon it becomes apparent where their son gets his sense of humour from.

"I can't hear a word he's saying," says Roger's father, before his mother gasps, "Oh no, he's jumping out of an aeroplane!"

A string of expletives and exclamations follow on as the pair begin the breathe and laugh.

"F*** off!," shouts the father, followed by "Holy sh**," from his mother as the couple gather their senses.

"I thought he was on a bus," shouts his father. "Argh, you eegiot."

Roger's mother later gets out a phone to take a photo of him, proudly exclaiming, "I took a photograph of you!"

The video was taken as part of a series by Hostel World and filmed near Sydney.
