The first cyclist to be killed riding a 'Boris Bike' was a 20-year-old French student, it was reported today.

The woman was killed in a collision with a lorry on Whitechapel High Street in east London on Friday evening. The lorry driver stopped at the scene and no arrests have been made.

The accident happened on Cycle Superhighway 2, outside Aldgate East underground station. In 2011, two cyclists died while using the route – both following collisions with lorries.

Scotland Yard is unable to release the woman’s name as her next of kin are yet to be informed. An inquest will take place in London this week.
