A package containing a detonator, batteries and a ticking clock was found in a suitcase checked on to a flight from Windhoek to Germany.

The Air Berlin flight was delayed for several hours but landed safely at Munich yesterday morning.

No explosives were found, but the German Federal Crime Office was sending experts to the Namibian capital to examine the package. It was discovered at the luggage screening point before it was loaded on to the aircraft.

Germany had already raised its terrorist threat level after intelligence about a possible attack.
