The interim President Diouncounda Traore has named a new Prime Minister less than 24 hours after the former premier, Cheick Modibo Diarra, was arrested and forced to resign by the military. He is Django Sissoko, a civil servant.
In March, the military overthrew the democratically elected President, Amadou Toumani Toure, in a coup and established a new transitional civilian government.
The coup leader, Captain Amadou Haya Sanogo, promised to step aside, but the ousting of Mr Diarra demonstrates that the military still remains in control.
