Five lions mauled a holidaymaker to death while he showered under a tree at a campsite in a Zimbabwe nature reserve.

Peter Evershed, 59, a local businessman who was on a fishing trip, was attacked at the Chitake Springs bush camp on the Zambezi River near the Mana Pools nature reserve, last Friday afternoon.

The victim's family and friends heard him scream and raced to the showers, but he was already dead. The lions retreated only after a safari operator pulled up in a vehicle with its headlights on and fired shots into the air.
