Donald Trump claims Time Magazine told him he was 'probably' going to be Man of the Year

Andy Murray has mocked Donald Trump’s claim that he snubbed Time magazine over the Person Of The Year award in a tweet parodying the President.

On Friday Trump told followers Time magazine had said “I was PROBABLY going to be named ‘Man (Person) of the Year,’” but he turned it down.

Parodying the President, Murray tweeted: “Bbc just called to say I was PROBABLY going to be named sports personality of the year but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!”

In a tweet Time denied Mr Trump’s claim. It wrote: “The President is incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year. TIME does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6.”

A number of celebrities, including Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Baddiel and David Schneider, also took to Twitter to mock the President with parody tweets.

Ms Louis-Dreyfus, star of Seinfeld, wrote: “The New York Times just called to say I was PROBABLY going to be named comedienne of the year but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!”

The actor has been vocal in her criticism of the US President, using her speech at the Screen Actors Guild award in January to condemn his immigration ban.

Comedian David Baddiel also parodied the President’s tweet, writing: “I just had a vision from God who said I was PROBABLY going to be named as The Messiah. But I would have to agree to a crown of thorns and crucifixion. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!”

Actor David Schneider wrote: “Hollywood just called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named the next James Bond but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!”

Trump was named Person of the Year in 2016 having been chosen from a shortlist that included Hillary Clinton and Vladimir Putin.
