What do you say when you come face to face with the President of the United States?

It's a situation many of us may long for, especially with the present incumbent, but no doubt if the moment ever arose we may choke, or worse, do something embarrassing.

On Monday in Chicago Mike Jones, an Illinois voter, decided to use the confrontational boyfriend approach with Barack Obama when he noticed that president number 44 was voting in a booth next to his fiancé, Aia Cooper.

As he walked past the pair, Jones said, "Mr. President, don't touch my girlfriend".

Cooper laughed, looking rather embarrassed: "Did he really just say that?"

Yet the president was unphased by Cooper's jibe. "I really wasn't planning on it," Obama retorted without looking up, before joking with Jones that her man was "an example of a brother just embarrassing you for no reason."

Cooper laughed along with Obama, apologising for her fiancé's behaviour.

Obama continued to joke. "You'll be going back home talking to your friends about this. I can't believe - what's his name?"

Cooper said, "Mike".

"I can't believe Mike. He's such a fool," Obama joked. "But fortunately, fortunately, the President was nice about it".

After Obama had finished voting, he embraced Cooper and said: "You're gonna kiss me, give him something to talk about. Now, he's really jealous".

President Obama was casting a ballot in early voting for the 2014 midterm elections at the Dr. Martin Luther King Community Service Center in Chicago.

The President was back in state where he was senator between 2005 and 2009 to campaign for Democratic Governor Pat Quinn.
