Clint Dempsey shown red card for ripping up referee's notebook
The US Captain was the third US player to be ejected after a red card
Clint Dempsey ripped up a referee's notebook and was shown a red card as his team lost on Tuesday night.
The United States captain responded to referee Daniel Radford’s red card to team-mate Michael Azira. The 32-year-old forward snatched the ref’s notebook and ripped it into pieces.
Dempsey’s Seattle Sounders lost the match as the Portland Timbers outscored them 3-1.
The star forward may now face a long-term suspension spanning at least three-months, meaning he could miss this summer's Gold Cup.
