The guards who were supposed to be watching Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman in a high-security prison were caught playing a nice game of solitaire while he escaped.

NBC News reports that the security guards Carlos Sanches Garcia and Jose Daniel Aureoles Tabares were caught on security video playing the popular card game. The pair couldn’t be bothered while hammering and commotion was heard from the convict’s cell. Both security fabricated their original statements, claiming that their computers froze before a judge reviewed security footage in court, El Universal reports.

Mexico has arrested 20 people in connection with the drug kingpin’s escape on July 11, which has been a huge embarrassment for Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto.

The convict escaped through a 1.5km tunnel from the shower in his jail cell and has been on the run ever since.

How did 'El Chapo' escape from a high-security prison?
