Fire at Disney World: Rollercoaster evacuated after catching fire following fireworks show

Disney World's Seven Dwarfs Mine Train was evacuated, but nobody was hurt

Disney World was forced to evacuate one of its rides on Saturday night after it caught on fire.

The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, which opened in May of this year, is thought to have been set ablaze when embers from a firework's display that landed a nearby installation.

It took about 40 minutes for emergency services to get the fire under control, though the extent of the damage has not yet been stated.

Nobody was injured in the fire.

Witnesses took to social media to post pictures of the blaze, including a series from Luis Garcia from throughout the night.

A video of the fire spreading has also emerged.

Disney World, in Orlando, Florida, confirmed late that night that the fire had been extinguished.

The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, inspired by the Snow White movie, is part of the amusement park's Magic Kingdom; it was envisioned as a family-friendly alternative to Thunder Mountain and Terror Tower.

The Twittersphere has been making jokes about the first, with one user Roger Feder tweeting that Grumpy had been identified as "a person of interest".

Another wrote: "Come to Walt Disney World. Trust me, the fire effects on the rides are so realistic, you'd swear the ride is burning."

Though Disney World malfunctions are not frequent, there was an incident last month in which dozens of passengers were stuck atop Mickey's Fun Wheel at the company California campus for over an hour.

And in another sort-of similar incident in July of this year, over a hundred people were evacuated from the park due to a weather-related power outage. No one was injured in that incident.
