The Colombian military has killed one of the most senior commanders of the Farc, the Marxist rebel group which has led a civil war in the country for more than 40 years.
Alfonso Cano, was killed in a raid on a Farc position in the south-western Cauca region. Colombian television showed pictures of Cano's corpse with his characteristic beard shaved off. President Juan Manuel Santos described Cano's death as "the most devastating blow that this group has suffered in its history".
