Kim Kardashian West has defended her husband Kanye West’s tweets in support of Donald Trump - and criticised suggestions he was mentally unstable.

“Mental Health is no joke and the media needs to stop spitting that out so casually. Bottom line”, she said on Twitter.

The hip-hop star opined on a wide range of topics in a burst of tweets stretching over hours, including messages in which he showed his support for Mr Trump.

After the frenetic burst of online activity prompted questions about Kanye West’s state of mind, Kim Kardashian West leaped to his defence.

“To the media trying to demonize my husband let me just say this... your commentary on Kanye being erratic & his tweets being disturbing is actually scary. So quick to label him as having mental health issues for just being himself when he has always been expressive is not fair”, she said.

The former reality television also backed her husband’s tweets in support of the president, including one in which Kanye West referred to Mr Trump as “my brother”.

“Now when he spoke out about Trump... Most people (including myself) have very different feelings & opinions about this. But this is HIS opinion”, Kim Kardashian West said.

The warm feelings ran both ways. The president thanked Kanye West and called an image the rapper shared of a signed “Make America Great Again” hat “very cool”.
