US police are investigating the death of a blind 75-year-old man after his decapitated body was found in a flat in Inglewood, Los Angeles.

Police are continuing to search for the man's head, which was not found with body.

The Los Angeles county coroner identified the victim as Robert Hollis.

Hollis was registered as blind and lived alone. His body was reportedly discovered last week by his son, who went to check on him at his residence in Glenway Drive after family members said they were unable to contact him.

Police and firefighters attended the scene with him.

Sahir Champion, a neighbour of the victim, was quoted in an article on the KTLA 5 website as saying Mr Hollis was "always smiling, just a genuine good guy".

The Inglewood Police Department has not released further details.
