When a Massachusetts man couldn't afford bail he offered up his brand new Nike sneakers, which the judge gladly accepted.

39-year-old Jason Duval was arrested for possession of class B and C substances last Thursday along with driving to endanger, charges which were supposed to be dropped once he had paid court fees of $450.

He said he was unable to due to an expensive divorce, but wasn't keen on the other option of a few days in prison.

"I'll give you a chance to be creative," judge Douglas Stoddart told him. "If you can come up with a creative idea to convince me that you'll come back, I'll work with you."

Duval returned with his new sneaks, a Christmas present, to which the judge said "Ok, we'll take them".

The judge said the man's shoes will be returned once he has stumped up $100.
