Riots have spread across not just the Missouri town but all over the country following the grand jury verdict

Violent riots erupted in the US city of Ferguson last night after a grand jury decided not to bring charges against the white police officer, Darren Wilson, over the shooting of black teenager Michael Brown.

The St Louis suburb of Ferguson has been gripped once again by violent protests just like in the summer following Brown's death - demonstrators and armoured police have clashed across parts of the city following the announcement at 8pm on Monday.

Latest reports suggest that over a dozen buildings have been set alight and mostly destroyed and that at least 29 people have been arrested, according to St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar.

Despite no serious injuries being report as of yet, Belmar said the disturbances on Monday night and early Tuesday morning were "much worse" than the unrest back in August.

Tear gas let off

An AP cameraman got caught in the middle of events in Ferguson when officers in armored vehicles lobbed canisters of tear gas, dispersing crowds in Ferguson after the police car was burned.

New York protests

Times Square was closed down to vehicle traffic by New York police on Monday evening as hundreds jammed in to express their own disquiet at the ruling. Protests were also being held in Baltimore, Boston and Washington, D.C.

Police said at least a dozen building were set on fire and mostly destroyed on Monday evening. Two police cars were also burned and around 150 bullets were fired. This aerial footage shows the extent of the damage and the scene of burning cars across the entire town.
