Pokemon Go player 'deliberately run over' by American driver

Witnesses reported seeing the victim talk with the motorist before being knocked down

A Pokémon GO player was deliberately mown down by a driver while playing the cult game on an American street, according to US police.

Witnesses reported seeing the 37-year-old victim exchange words with a driver at crossroads in Bangor - a city in the north-eastern state of Maine, before the incident allegedly happened.

Writing on a dedicated Facebook page, one said: “The man who was hit did not move off the ground, paramedics arrived and instantly put him in ambulance and brought to EMMC [Eastern Maine Medical Center]."

Emergency services attended and cordoned off the road just before 10pm local time on Sunday.

The group members have offered to ‘come together’ to do something nice for the victim.

Police have charged 36-year-old Jeannie Chapman of Brewer, Maine, with aggravated assault - a class B crime.

Taking exception to the news reports, a Pokémon player posted in the same Facebook group: “They have been reporting us as moronic zombies walking into traffic without paying attention to where we're going and that's simply not true.”

There have been numerous reports of incidents involving the game's players.
