Inmate falls through jail ceiling in botched escape attempt

An inmate attempting a prison break was thwarted when he fell through the ceiling.

Blaze Ayers was being taken to his holding cell at Jackson County Jail in Indiana when he ran from officers and locked himself in a medical room, Jackson County sheriff Rick Meyer said in a statement on Facebook.

By the time officers got into the room, the 28-year-old had made his way into the ceiling.

Attempts to talk him down failed so officers pulled out stun guns.

At one point CCTV footage of the incident show Ayers' torso breaking through a ceiling tile.

Several more tiles fall causing him to crash through the ceiling and onto the floor of the booking area.

When he refused to surrender and officers can be seen using a stun gun to subdue him.

The sheriff said his attempted escape “caused extensive damage to the ceiling”.

Ayers was treated for minor injuries.

He has been charged with attempted escape and criminal mischief.
