The rise and fall of 'Kai', New Jersey's Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker

Police are eager to speak with an internet celebrity in relation to the murder of a New Jersey lawyer.

Caleb Lawrence McGillvary, better known as “Kai, the Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker,” 34, is suspected of killing Joseph Galfy Jr, who was found at his home earlier this week.

Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow told reporters that an autopsy had determined he died from blunt force drama.

A string of television appearances and news reports followed, including an interview with veteran American broadcaster Jimmy Kimmel.

His movements have gone largely unnoticed since but has recently been seen at a railway station in Haddonfield, N.J. area, according to Romankow.

Police found Galfy after he failed to show up for work or answer his mobile phone. There was no sign of forced entry into the property and no evidence that anything was stolen, according to officials.

Officials added that McGillvary has cut his hair in order to alter his appearance and is considered armed and dangerous. Authorities are also urging to the public to report him to police, with a reward of $5,000 being offered for information that leads to an arrest.

The hitchhiker is charged with murder, with bail set at $3 million by Superior Court Judge Stuart Peim.
