The homework where eight-year-olds are told to spend more time with their families
'There will be no formally assigned homework this year'
A teacher suprised her eight-year-old students by setting them homework consisting of spending time with their families and going to bed early.
Brandy Young, a second-grade teacher at Godley Elementary School in Texas, outlined her homework policy at the start of the school year with a note handed out at a "Meet the Teacher Night".
The note has gone viral with over 66,500 shares after a pleased parent, Samantha Gallagher, posted it on Facebook.
Ms Gallagher said her daughter Brooke was really happy.
Ms Young wrote:"After much research this summer, I am trying something new.
"Homework will only consist of work that your student did not finish during the school day.
"There will be no formally assigned homework this year."
Instead of traditional homework, the teacher called on her pupils to play outside, eat dinner, read with their family and go to bed early.
She told CBS: "[Students] work hard all day. When they go home they have other things they need to learn there
"I’m trying to develop their whole person; it’s not beneficial to go home and do pencil and paper work.
"For any teacher considering anything that might benefit their students I say go for it; if something doesn’t work, change it."
