A Texas congressman known for making inflammatory statements compared President Obama to Adolf Hitler on Twitter.

Rep. Randy Weber, a conservative who represents a district based in Galveston, sent the tweet Monday night amid criticism that Obama did not attend an anti-terrorism march in Paris.

Weber tweeted: “Even Adolph Hitler thought it more important than Obama to get to Paris. (For all the wrong reasons.) Obama couldn’t do it for the right reasons.”

Hitler visited Paris in 1940 after Nazi troops invaded and occupied France.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest said on Monday that the Obama administration “should have sent someone with a higher profile” to participate in Sunday’s rally in Paris. The event to show solidarity with France after 17 people were killed in terrorist attacks last week drew millions of people — including 40 world leaders.

Weber, now in his second term representing Texas’ 14th District, garnered headlines last year when he sent an incendiary tweet from the House floor criticizing Obama as the “Kommandant-in-chef” and a “socialist dictator” during the State of the Union Address.
