A US gun range is now allowing customers to drink alcohol while they shoot
Owners vow to ensure patrons aren't too drunk
If you enjoy a beer or two while on a night out shooting guns, you’re in luck. A gun range in Florida has been licensed to serve alcohol on its premises.
Daytona Beach city commissioners approved the gun range’s application to serve alcoholic beverages, in a vote held on Wednesday night. CBS News reports just one of the commissioners queried the logic of the proposal.
Commissioner Ruth Trager expressed concerns staff would not be able to know whether a patron was sober enough to operate a gun.
However, the committee overruled her concerns.
Range owner, Ron Perkinson, argued his staff would keep an eye on patrons to ensure they weren’t too drunk.
He said: “[Staff] will be trained to visually look at the person, look at their eyes [and] look at their pupils, just like an officer would.”
He said he wasn’t trying to create an atmosphere where people would mix guns and alcohol to dangerous levels, but was giving them a rounded experience in which they could shoot, eat and drink in a proportionate and safe manner.
“To the critics, I say, you’re right," he said.
"I’m not trying to mix the two. I’m trying to give you a nice meal before you go home. If you choose to have an alcoholic beverage and go home, that’s on you."
