Three killed as gunman opens fire at university in Texas
A policeman was among three people killed in a shooting on a Texas university campus yesterday, police said.
The gunman himself and a 65-year-old man were also killed, while two other officers and a woman were injured at Texas A&M University in the town of College Station.
The dead policeman was named as Brazos County Constable Brian Bachmann as officers established a perimeter around the area at the start of their investigation. Police say the gunman was being served an eviction notice before he opened fire from inside a home near the Texas university.
College Station Assistant Police Chief Scott McCollum said Bachmann went to the off-campus home near Texas A&M University's football stadium early Monday afternoon when the gunman started shooting,
The university had issued an alert on its website just before 12.30pm warning of an active gunman near the campus football stadium, Kyle Field. But Texas A&M spokeswoman Sherylon Carroll said most students were not on campus.
