A US man who couldn’t reach the bench dedicated to his late wife because of the snow has thanked the two men who cleared it every morning so he could reach her.

Bud Caldwell, 82, lost his wife Betty two years ago after spending 56 years together.

Mr Caldwell, from Wisconsin, was distraught at losing her so he began making a daily pilgrimage to Fond Du Lac Park, where he had had a bench dedicated to her memory, leaving behind a daisy every day.

Two park employees, Jerrod Ebert and Joe Smaltz, spotted the 82-year-old sitting in his car after the cold weather flew in across the state and blanketed it in snow.

Realising the elderly gentleman was unable to reach his bench, the two employees decided to shovel away the snow each morning so that Mr Caldwell could continue seeing his wife.

“We both commented that we just can't have this. We've got to make sure he can get to his bench and talk to his wife,” Mr Ebert said. Adding: “We did it only because of his love for his wife. He truly misses her.”

Mr Caldwell continues to visit his wife, leaving behind daisies and pennies in memory of their two favourite songs: 'Daisy a Day,' and 'Pennies From Heaven,' CBS 58 News reported.

“Two young men did such a nice thing for an old man,” he said.
