Trump refuses to deny America is on path toward World War Three

'We were on the wrong path before', the President said

Donald Trump has not denied that the US is heading toward a Third World War, while also dismissing a Republican lawmaker’s warning against his brash rhetoric style.

Senator Bob Corker, who Mr Trump began publicly feuding with over the weekend, told a New York Times reporter that the President’s comments about other nations could put the US “on the path to World War III.”

Asked on Tuesday if the lawmaker was correct in his assessment, Mr Trump responded: “We were on the wrong path before.”

“All you have to do is take a look,” Mr Trump added. “If you look over the last 25 years, through numerous administrations, we were on a path to a very big problem – a problem like this world has never seen. We’re on the right path right now, believe me.”

Since Mr Trump took office in January, tensions between the US and North Korea, in particular, have escalated as the latter has continued to develop its ballistic and nuclear weapons programme.

Last month, the United Nations Security Council unanimously voted to ratchet up sanctions on North Korea following its sixth and largest nuclear test.

While Washington continues to seek a way to rein in the isolated nation, there is concern that Kim Jong-un’s regime might not be able to be deterred.

Meanwhile, Mr Trump has continuously attacked North Korea on Twitter and during speeches and comments to the press.

Along with labelling Mr Kim “little rocket man”, the President claimed in August that any threat from North Korea would be met with “fire and fury like the world has never seen”.
