More than 1,600 pupils have been expelled from school for cheating in exams. Many took textbooks and notes into exam halls, while in other cases parents were caught throwing paper aeroplanes bearing the answers into classrooms.

The students were caught after a crackdown involving teachers, police and “flying squads” of education officials and magistrates who visited exam centres in the northern state of Bihar.
