Motorcyclist miraculously recovers after falling off bike and getting impaled by a metal rod through his neck and mouth

A motorcyclist had a miraculous recovery after he fell off his bike and was impaled on a metal rod - through his neck and mouth.

The rider, named only as Suresh, 35, was trying to avoid a head on collision with an oncoming three-wheeler, when he lost control of his bike and veered off the road.

He rammed his bike into a pile of construction materials and got impaled by the rod which pierced through the back of his neck - and emerged through his mouth.

Unsurprisingly he immediately passed out - but thankfully he was discovered by passing motorists who took him to hospital.

Miraculously surgeons removed the rod - and Suresh, who works as a farmer, is now recovering at home in Andhra Pradesh's East Godavari district in India.

He said: "After the accident, I fell unconscious and had no idea how I landed in the hospital.

Suresh was found by passers-by on the roadside SWNS

"My relatives told me that some good samaritans brought me to the hospital. I want to thank them for saving my life.

"Doctors told me that I was brought in within the golden hour and that's why they could save my life."

Surgeons were able to remove the rod from his neck and mouth

The accident took place on 18 November on National Highway 216 and passers-by rushed him to the state-run Kakinada Hospital, 20 miles away.

The materials which he fell on were made to expand roads

A police spokesperson said: "Suresh was trying to avoid hitting an auto-rickshaw. He fell on a pile of iron rods lying by the National Highway 216.

"The construction materials were meant to be used to widen roads.
