Pakistan has pulled all of its diplomatic staff out of the Afghan capital of Kabul, a foreign ministry spokesman said.
"In view of the abnormal situation, they were withdrawn over the weekend. They are all in Pakistan," said Mohmad Riaz Khan.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are the only two countries that still recognize the Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan. The United Arab Emirates withdrew recognition over the weekend
Mr Khan said Afghanistan's ambassador to Pakistan remains in place.
