An experienced Sherpa guide and son of a legendary climber has died at Mount Everest's base camp, the first fatality of this year's spring climbing season.

Karsang Namgyal, 40, died on Wednesday from altitude sickness, expedition organiser Dambar Parajuli said. Mr Parajuli said Mr Namgyal did not appear to be sick or have any physical problems before Wednesday, when he complained of uneasiness and later died.

Mr Namgyal was the son of Ang Rita, who was the first climber to scale Everest 10 times.
