Australian senator Fraser Anning punches teenager after being egged for New Zealand attack comments

A teenager who cracked a raw egg over an Australian politician in protest at comments blaming Muslim immigration for the Christchurch shootings will reportedly donate most of the money raised for him to victims of the terror attack.

Will Connolly, dubbed “Egg Boy”, shot to fame after he was filmed smashing an egg over Queensland senator Fraser Anning during a TV interview. It prompted a scuffle in which the 17-year-old was twice punched and then restrained.

Police said Mr Connolly was arrested but released without charge pending an investigation.

A GoFundMe page was subsequently set up for Mr Connolly by a supporter, who said money raised would go towards his legal fees and “more eggs”.

“Our hero EggBoi takes on Fraser Anning, the senator for Queensland that is now despised around the world for comments made after the shooting at a New Zealand mosque,” the supporter wrote on the fundraising page, which has received donations totalling more than $45,000 (£34,000).

The supporter said Mr Connolly had been in contact, and that he planed “to send a majority of the money to the victims of the Christchurch terrorist attack”.

After Mr Connolly was released by police, footage of him was posted on Twitter in which he referred to the men who tackled him to the ground after the incident using Australian slang equivalent to the American 'redneck'.

"Don't egg politicians," he said.

"You get tackled by 30 bogans at the same time. I learned the hard way, f***.”

Mr Anning has been heavily criticised after blaming Muslim immigration for the far-right shootings at two New Zealand mosques on Friday, which left 50 people dead.

"Does anyone still dispute the link between Muslim immigration and violence?" he asked.

After Mr Anning was egged, people across the planet took to social media to hail the youngster responsible, nicknaming him Egg Boy.

Twitter user @defilibrator tweeted: "Egg boy showed the world that religion, age or ethnicity doesn't matter when it comes to standing up against oppression, hatred and evil. You only need a pure heart and the egg boy has a heart of gold! Bless you."
